Teen Sex Ed for Parents
or How Parents Can Support Healthy Sexual Relationships through Courageous Conversations
with Shafia Zaloom, Health Educator, The Urban School
Have you wondered what your teen’s approach to sexuality is? Whether your sophomore is sexually active or considering it? What exactly are teens’ perspectives today, and how are they navigating the world of dating or hooking up in this digitally networked age? Does the new California consent law have heavy implications for your child? Most important, have you wondered whether you’ve had that critical “talk”, and done it well?
This exciting event will reveal how parents can have courageous, age-appropriate conversations, know when to have them, and in doing so, support their teen’s understanding and development of positive sexual relationships. At this event, you will learn to distinguish between healthy and unhealthy sexual behavior, what a teen should hope for and demand, and how to address this effectively with your child. You will get a sense of the scope of sexual activity by age. You will also learn about the current norms and definitions in teen relationships. By the end of the evening, you will acquire the tools and language necessary to have these important conversations with you teen.
