Marijuana and Beyond: Teen Drug Use in 2017
February 6, 2017, 7:30-9:00 pm
Did you know that heavy marijuana use among 11th graders in the Bay Area is double the state average in the same category?
Did you know that THC levels in cannabis leaves have reached 12% (from .7% in 1975) and 80% in oils and waxes? And that studies have shown an 8-point decline in IQ among persistent marijuana users who began in teen years?
Following the compelling and popular “Marijuana and Teens in 2016” talk last February, Dr. Danielle Ramo is returning to give an update if there should be full legalization in California. She will talk about the likely ramifications regarding access and consumption trends for teens, bringing data to bear from other states. At the same time she will expand her scope to discuss prescription drugs, notably opioids, as well as synthetics like the party drug Molly, and reveal how prevalent use is in the Bay Area, with comparisons to national levels. She will share her research and clinical expertise in adolescent drug use to recommend ways to address the issue with your teen, providing tips on how to have productive, thoughtful conversations.
