Strategies for Supporting Our Teens in Today's High Stress, High Pressure Environment

In the highly competitive and highly protective environment of the Bay Area, our local culture can create or intensify feelings of anxiety. Join us to hear from Drs. Erin Skiffer, and Brandi Marcaletti, who will share their expertise on addressing anxiety experienced by teenagers today. 

Learn specific information and strategies to support teens including:

  • The importance of validation and vulnerability

  • Finding the “right” level of support to foster independence and confidence

  • Practical strategies for responding to and engaging with your teen during anxious moments.

Our Speakers:

Dr. Erin Skiffer

Born and raised in the Bay Area, obtained her doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from the PGSP-Stanford Psy.D. Consortium in 2013. Her early career was spent at Kaiser Permanente, where she served youth, adults and families in both the Department of Psychiatry and in the Emergency Department and was a lead clinician for the Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). She has a special interest in working with and supporting athletes and those who identify as a member of a marginalized group. Her areas of interest and research include but are not limited to: parenting in the age of screens, mental health for girls in sports, and mental wellbeing in highly competitive environments.

Dr. Brandi Marcaletti

Parent of two teenagers in the Bay Area, grew up in Seattle, graduated from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, and earned her doctorate in clinical psychology at Palo Alto University. She served as Manager of the Child Psychiatry department in San Rafael & Petaluma. She was trained by the founder of the Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (S.P.A.C.E.), a parent-focused intervention for treating anxious children, teens, and young adults out of the Yale Child Study Center. She leads S.P.A.C.E. Parenting Groups at the Bridge to Bridge Marin and San Francisco locations, as well as individually with parents.

Erin Skiffer, PsyD, and Brandi Marcaletti, PhD, work together at Bridge to Bridge Psychotherapy Group, a mental health group practice serving youth, families and adults in a variety of different settings and contexts, including individual, family, couples and group therapy.


Our Q&A following the presentation will be moderated by Julie Strong, Assistant Head of School for Teaching and Learning at the French American and International School.

Julie Strong, PhD, is an experienced educational leader and change management specialist. She is currently the Assistant Head of School for Teaching and Learning at French American and International School, where she is responsible for preK-12 curriculum, pedagogy, and faculty professional learning. She also leads the school’s accreditation processes. She has presented at national and international conferences on leadership and DEI topics and facilitates an ongoing workshop for the California Teacher Development Collaborative (CATDC) on coaching and mentoring. Julie taught science to grades 9-12 for 18 years while moving progressively into full-time leadership roles. She holds a B.S. in Biology from Stanford University and a Ph.D. in Immunology from the University of California, San Francisco
